End to End Solution

Pivotal Turnkey is an end-to-end solution for planning and deploying fixed wireless access (FWA) on existing mobile mmWave networks. Operators rely on Pivotal Turnkey to expand and direct mmWave coverage from typically underutilized gNBs to nearby, qualified multiple dwelling units (MDUs) and single family homes. They leave the network deployment process to Pivotal because the process of planning, designing, installing, and validating mmWave differs significantly from their established processes at lower bands. Pivotal Turnkey helps operators leverage their mobile networks to expand gNB coverage directly to the hundreds of thousands of residents in households around the world.

Turnkey combines Pivotal Commware's mmWave experience with its ecosystem of products that leverages its lowest C-SWaP (cost, size, weight, and power consumption) antenna innovation, Holographic Beam Forming® (HBF). WaveScape® network planning optimizes the placement of network elements, e.g., Pivot 5G® and Echo 5G®, for a given coverage objective.

Pivot 5Gs navigate mmWave signals around obstacles. Echos penetrate them indoors through window glass. As layer 0 devices, Pivotal repeaters are completely transparent to the existing network. Intelligent Beam Management System (IBMS) manages and optimizes the repeater network layer. Operators can use IBMS’ view of traffic to forecast when to add capacity by replacing repeaters with gNBs.

Pivots facilitate extending, redirecting, and shaping mmWave signals from 5G base stations on demand and with low latency. Deploying Pivots in conjunction with gNBs allows operators to reach indoor and outdoor coverage objectives more effectively than using gNBs alone. gNBs are more expensive than Pivots, have bigger power footprints, require fiber, and may take up to 18 months of planning to get on the air. Pivots are low cost, quick to deploy, have minimal power requirements, and in some areas may not even require a meter. Pivots provide immediate coverage. When capacity improvements are needed, gNBs can be selectively deployed. Pivotal Turnkey uses pre-existing mobile network elements, alongside Pivots, to light up new FWA services for an operator in a few months. Turnkey provides the lowest total cost of ownership for the operator and accelerates its time-to-revenue.

Global Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are committed to the success of mmWave. Currently, most operators are focused on the successful buildout of sub-6 GHz which provides the first application of increased bandwidth at a higher frequency band. By doing this, MNOs are filling the short-term needs for capacity improvement. The next step for MNOs to increase capacity is the move to mmWave. Pivotal’s Turnkey provides a means for those MNOs who are just beginning to build their mmWave footprint to be prepared as more mobile phones start incorporating mmWave receivers. Pivotal’s Turnkey leverages the unique aspects for repeaters to deploy units quickly with a diverse set of right-of-way partners allowing access to deployment options difficult to use with traditional small cells. Pivotal’s proprietary toolset, called WaveScape uses high-resolution GIS data required by WaveScape and is available for most cities worldwide. Pivotal is currently building partner relationships outside of the US. Pivotal products work with all gNB manufacturers in both NSA and SA configurations.
